I read something this morning on a social media site that had me shaking my head. I’ll go you one better; it had me feeling a bit sad about my absolute favorite time of every year, and that’s Christmas.

I read an article recently, about a local student who killed herself as a result of relentless bullying by her peers. I imagine that there were other factors at work as well, but bullying no doubt contributed to the young woman’s desperation.
Well, it’s Halloween week. In my mind, this week kicks off the most glorious time of every year, the parade of holidays coming our way.
This past week was one of the best my family has had in, well, I don’t know how long. The week held my son’s and my husband’s birthdays.

The recent spate of attacks on police officers around the nation should give everyone reason for concern. And what’s even more troubling is the lack of compassion shown by some government officials and private citizens alike.
Our poor attention spans. They have dwindled down to nearly nothing, a phenomenon I suspect is attributable to social media. “Listicles,” like hashtags, tweets and tags, are the offspring of social media and its entertaining cousin, the blog. Yes, I am aware of what that union implies, but if the shoe fits…
