A Full Moon Over Tybee

While I enjoyed spending weekends with my grandkids, nothing matched a recent weekend visit to Tybee Island where I decided it was as good a time as any to show my grandson Carter how Pappaw could boogie board.

(Not So) Common Sense | Dog days are here now, but hope is on the horizon

We’ve all heard the expression “dog days of summer.” For the longest time, I actually thought that this expression referred to the long, hot days of summer that are so long and brutally hot, even dogs suffer. Thank goodness for Google (actually, thank goodness for my freshman Government professor, for throwing that random reference into the middle of a long, dry lecture. It’s all I remember from his class).

(Not So) Common Sense | Skydiving. It just isn’t natural

A dear friend of mine just turned age 55, a milestone I glimpsed in the rear view mirror more than a year ago. The big 5-5 bothered her, I’m afraid. She worried about 50’s approach for a full year before it arrived, and for some reason, 55 has bothered her even more.

“Yes, ma’am!” I just love your accent. You must be from the South

“The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” ~ Proverbs 18:21.
My husband, Jeff, and I visited my parents in New Hope, Pennsylvania last month. Early one Saturday morning, we went shopping with Mom. During our transaction with the sales clerk, Mom asked me a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ question. I responded, “Yes, ma’am.”

Dressed in the Best Garden Finery

It is that time of the year again. The April, May and June showers have certainly brought spring flowers— and grass and weeds.

(Not So) Common Sense | Your attention, please…

I want to ask for the attention of two separate audiences today: Christians, and those who are turned off by Christians. Don’t worry; I’m not going to launch into a sermon or try to tell you you’re wrong if you don’t believe the same things that I do.

We can do better

There is so much divisiveness in today’s society and it appears to be worsening.

Highway carnage

I could not believe how fast cars were passing me and I was driving the speed limit. Officials scratch their heads wondering why deadly crashes happen so frequently; it’s obvious; too many cars on the roads and too many speeders.
