What others think of you is none of your business

No one likes to be told that, do they? “This is none of your business.” I don’t. Sometimes I think I believe that everything is my business, simply because I believe my opinion has value to anyone and everyone. Well, it’s not, and it doesn’t. That’s a good thing, by the way. When we finally learn the lesson about circles of influence and the things that really should matter to us, life is oh-so-much simpler.

Tips for surviving an active shooter attack

In just a few years, attacks at public venues (schools, the workplace, shopping malls) have become all too common. Firearms and bombs seem to be the preferred weapons. Aside from becoming aware of a bomb, and vacating the premises, there isn’t much a person can do to avoid injury or death. But when an “active shooter” is on site, other options do exist.

The language of Politi-speak

My mama always taught me that there were two things we ought never to talk about, and those are religion and politics. As is true of so many things she taught me, she was right about that. I’ve pondered over the years as to why this is true, and here’s what I’ve come up with: religion and politics are both things about which we Americans are very passionate. That’s a good thing, by the way.

“I don’t know what we’re going to do about our neighbors. They have junk all over the front yard, they hardly ever mow their grass, they have cars parked all over the yard they make the neighborhood look trashy.”

Mirror, mirror on the wall

In the 1937 Disney classic movie, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, originally written by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, emerged the classic line, “Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?” Snow White’s evil step-mother, the Queen, impatiently waited to hear the magic mirror’s reply.

“Girl power.” We’re never too old to say it.

How many times have I said to myself, “What would I have done different, had I known then then what I know now.” It’s a question that’s impossible to answer, yet I ask it several times a day.
