Citizen Police Academy begins in Duluth

Only a few spots remain! The City of Duluth Police Department is proud to announce the scheduling of a Citizen Police Academy. Citizens are invited to attend this free academy, which has been designed to introduce citizen to the various functions of police work. The department is now accepting applications. The thirty-hour course will begin on January 23 and end on May 24, 2014. 

Citizen Police Academy begins in Duluth

Classes will be approximately three hours in length, meeting about every other Thursday from 07:00PM to 10:00PM. The department is located at 3276 Buford Highway, Duluth, Ga. 30096. The goal of the department’s Citizen Police Academy is to enhance communication and understanding between the department and citizens. In an overall approach to community policing, citizens will participate and learn about their police department; its mission and goals; and the men and women of the department serving the community on a daily basis. Each week the class will provide information on a difference aspect of law enforcement to include: laws of arrest, patrol techniques, domestic violence and crisis intervention, firearms safety, crime scene management, and traffic enforcement. Participants will be able to utilize the scenario based shooting simulator and do some hands on driving of a patrol vehicle. 

Class size is limited. City of Duluth residents will be given first priority. Participants must be 21 years old or older with a valid driver’s license. Participants must submit to a check of their criminal background.
