Countdown on for Wisteria City Market opening

SNELLVILLE – In a few days, an open field on Wisteria Drive will be transformed into a symbol of the city’s economic potential.

The Wisteria City Market will kick off with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9:50 a.m. May 16 and will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. across from the police department at Wisteria Drive and Clower Street in The Towne Center @ Snellville.

The event will be filled with local businesses with products for sale, food and drinks, artists demonstrating and selling their crafts and engaging city information sessions.

The Wisteria City Market will be a one-day event, a demonstration of what a possible Towne Center @ Snellville could look like in the future. There will be a number of activities, such as yoga lessons on the lawn and a celebratory dinner at the end of the market.

The Season 8 winner of the Fox Television hit “Hell’s Kitchen” will serve as a celebrity chef at the event. Nona Johnson will cook a meal after the event closes for special guests. Table are still available for purchase. A table for six $200, individual seats are $40 each.

The marketplace, sponsored by the Downtown Development Authority of Snellville, Snellville Arts Commission, Snellville Farmers Market, Community Garden @ Snellville and Snellville Tourism and Trade, was made possible after the DDA received a $15,000 Lifelong Tactical Urbanism Demonstration Project grant.

Parking will be available at City Hall and the Wisteria Place shopping center, where a trolley will also shuttle visitors to and from the 8.5-acre site.
