DAR Good Citizens honored

DAR Good Citizens Meghann Ashey, Cara Brooks, and Rachel Byers were honored on Sunday, February 21, at Philadelphia Winn Chapter NSDAR, in Lawrenceville, Georgia.

The Philadelphia Winn Chapter is proud to honor three DAR Good Citizens for 2016. Each was chosen by the faculty of her high school based on the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism.

The DAR Good Citizens program and optional scholarship contest is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship. All three of these students elected to enter the scholarship contest and had excellent entries. Part I consists of the student’s list of activities, service, and leadership, and how he/she has tried to manifest the qualities of a good citizen. This is submitted with a grade transcript and two letters of recommendation. Part II is a timed essay administered by a faculty member in a two-hour time limit, without assistance or reference materials. This year’s Essay Title: Our American Heritage and Our Responsibility for Preserving It. The Focus Question: Of our American rights and freedoms, which one would you choose to celebrate and why?  Each contest entry is evaluated by independent, non-DAR judges, and the chapter winner advances to the District level.
