Lanier High School and South Gwinnett High School took the top two spots in the statewide Get There Green competition sponsored by the Clean Air Campaign. The contest asked students to create schoolwide green transportation plans. Lanier High took top honors in the competition, while South Gwinnett High placed 2nd.

Nico Warner, a Walnut Grove Elementary School student won 1st place in the 2015 Young Lungs at Work Competition. Warner was one of 1,500 students from around the state who submitted t-shirt designs that carry the message for clean air. 

Summerour Middle School and Norcross High School won 1st and 2nd place, respectively, in the Kinetic Sculpture Competition. Nesbit Elementary School and Arcado Elementary School tied for 3rd place. Through its Kinetic Sculpture Competition, the Norcross Public Arts Commission challenged local schools to transform ordinary objects into artistic kinetic sculptures.

At the end of the 2014-2015 school year, 515 Gwinnett County Public Schools educators and support staff will retire. In total, our 2014–15 retirees have contributed a collective 12,523 years of their lives to education, and a total of 9,605 years to Gwinnett schoolchildren. In fact, 49% (251) of our retirees have worked their entire careers— in the classroom, office, cafeteria, bus, or shop— in this school system. Among this year’s retirees, 144 have 30 or more years of service in education and 29 have invested 40 or more years in education.

Legendary singer-songwriter Barry Manilow is “hitting the road” ONE LAST TIME! and hopes others will follow his philanthropic lead as he donates a Yamaha Keyboard to launch a local instrument drive during his ONE LAST TIME! Tour for Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS). Anyone who donates a new or gently used musical instrument to The Arena at Gwinnett Center Box Office will receive two free tickets (valid for pre-selected seat locations) for Manilow’s June 4 concert in Duluth, GA. The Arena at Gwinnett Center box office will be the base for GCPS’ music instrument drive from now through June 4. The instrument drop off location is open Monday—Friday, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
