GCPS principal named top administrator in Georgia

Dr. Dion Jones, the principal of Roberts Elementary School, was named the 2015 Georgia Administrator of the Year by the Georgia School Counselor Association (GSCA).

The award is presented to an administrator who supports, promotes, and improves existing school counseling services as well as implements new counseling services.

“It is an honor to be recognized for doing something you love every day,” Jones said. “At Roberts, I work with two great counselors in Stacey Miller and Rachael Fogelman and together we strive to provide optimum support for our students every day.”

Dianne Thompson, Director, Office of Advisement & Counseling GCPS, says Jones support is invaluable. “Dr. Jones is a true advocate for school counseling.  He makes it a priority to protect his counselors’ time which allows them to address students’ needs in the ways they are uniquely qualified to do.  He supports their programming in word, deed, and action— including encouraging their attendance at counseling conferences, and co-presenting sessions to show the synergy between counseling and administration at Roberts Elementary School,” Thompson said.

Jones will be honored at the 2015 GSCA Annual Conference November 4-6 in Savannah, Georgia. This is the second year in a row a GCPS administrator has won the Administrator of the Year award.
