Gwinnett contract will rehab bridges

Five bridges will undergo repairs to extend their useful life under a new contract that Gwinnett commissioners approved on Tuesday July 1, 2014.

The bridges are on Steve Reynolds Boulevard, Ingram Road, Connemara Trace, Rockbridge Road and Arnold Road. Sunbelt Structures Inc. of Tucker was the lowest of five bidders at $375,000.

The bridge work includes cleaning and painting steel beams, sealing bridge deck joints, encasing bridge pilings with concrete and filling erosion voids at the abutments. The rehabilitation projects will begin in August with an expected completion date by the end of the year.

Gwinnett Transportation Director Kim Conroy said, “This is part of our ongoing capital improvement program to make sure that road structures in Gwinnett are safe and reliable. We’re grateful for voter approval of the 2009 SPLOST program to help fund projects like these.”
