Gwinnett County, City of Grayson team up to improve major intersection

Lawrenceville – The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday approved a construction contract made possible by a partnership between the county government and the city of Grayson. The intersection improvement will reduce congestion while improving safety for motorists traveling to nearby Grayson Elementary.

This joint venture allowed the agencies to share the costs of all phases of the project at the intersection of State Route 84 (Grayson Parkway) and Rosebud Road. Both agencies worked together to develop the project with the city adding several features including traffic signal and fencing enhancements.

Grayson Mayor Allison Wilkerson said, “The intersection improvement at Rosebud Road and Grayson Parkway is a dream project for the city of Grayson. It would never have been possible had Chairman [Charlotte] Nash and the Commissioners not offered joint city/county SPLOST projects. We appreciate the relationship and collaboration between the city of Grayson, Gwinnett County DOT and Gwinnett County Board of Education to make this project possible. And, of course, we are very grateful for the Gwinnett County voters who understand the value of SPLOST.”

The project will add turn lanes from Rosebud Road onto Grayson Parkway and will include an upgrade to the traffic signal and pedestrian facilities. Curb and gutter and other drainage improvements will also be constructed.

District 3 Commissioner Tommy Hunter said, “I’m proud of the cooperative efforts by the two governments to build this project.”

This project was awarded to Ohmshiv Construction, the lowest of four responsive bidders at $1,929,660.15. Gwinnett will be responsible for oversight and completion of the construction. Both entities are using 2014 SPLOST funds for their share of the project.
