Gwinnett County Tag & Title Services Interrupted May 21-29

A new state motor vehicle system and the Memorial Day holiday will affect services.

Gwinnett County Tax Commissioner Richard Steele is alerting Gwinnett County residents that tag and title services will be interrupted in various ways from May 21-29 while a new state motor vehicle system is being installed.

“Most people wait until their birthdays to renew their tag, and most of the time that works out. But for those dates this year, it won’t,” Steele said. “To avoid any problems, residents whose birthdays are May 21st to May 29th need to renew early.”

Following are the details of how services will be affected:
• May 21-29: No renewals online or at kiosks.
• May 23-25: No tag or title services at tag offices.
• May 27: Closed for Memorial Day.

More than 15,000 Gwinnettians have birthdays from May 21st to May 29th. While vehicle owners can renew tags up to 60 days in advance, the vast majority wait until their birthday, as depicted in the chart to the right. Renewal notices for May birthdays have been mailed, and owners can renew them now.

Emissions tests must be completed in advance for model years 1995-2016, and ways to renew include:
Online – for renewals without changes from previous registration; convenience fees apply; decals arrive by mail.
Kiosks – for renewals without changes from previous registration; convenience fees apply; receive decal immediately.
Tag Offices – for all renewals; no convenience fees; five offices county-wide.
