The students explored various components of diagnosing congestive heart disease thanks to the efforts of GA-PCOM faculty and staff members. GA-PCOM Student Ambassadors escorted the students and answered questions about medical school from a student’s perspective. One of the ambassadors, Tatianna Rodriguez, a graduate of Georgia Gwinnett College and a member of the GA-PCOM class of 2018, was part of the medical center’s explorer program while in high school.

The Medical Explorer program, a program of the Boy Scouts of America, is geared toward high school juniors and seniors interested in health care. The students meet one evening a month during the academic school year. Program members learn about a variety of health care careers and participate in hands-on activities. The Gwinnett Medical Center program runs October through May. To be considered for the program, students must be sponsored by a health system employee, volunteer or an affiliated physician. Application packets will be available on the health system’s website in late August.
