Gwinnett’s summertime models

Every husband and wife I know would agree that Marriage brings out a lot of surprises. In many cases those surprises occur during the first few months of married life.

However, in the case of Jamie Chesin and her groom Daniel Griffith, the first “You’re kidding” came during the wedding ceremony, when Darth Vader and a Storm Trooper interrupted the ceremony. Jamie is the Director of Operations for Abeo, a medical supply company while Daniel is the owner of Ballyhoo Motion Pictures.  They met at a conference centering on their mutual fascination with Star Wars.  Neither bride nor groom knew that the bride’s parents, Brad and Judy Chesin had found a very noticeable way to build that into the ceremony.

We are now busy photographing the class of 2016. We cannot overstate how many confident and charming students we photograph each day nor how gorgeously brilliant their teeth shine (2015 teeth whitening technology is cutting edge!!!) Jeffrey Jacob chose to pose in an outfit that screamed “Best dressed” even before he added the sunglasses and “16”. Jeffrey moved here from Pennsylvania in 2010 with his parents and younger brother and sister.  He is the President of the Technology Student Association at Gwinnett School of Math, Science and Technology and is looking at Harvard or Georgia Tech for his collegiate schooling. His parents often had him in suits for various family occasions and he is comfortable in suits.  In his sparetime he liked computer programming, coding, basketball and Netflix.

Another stand out student model was Mill Creek senior Kristin Vitt, shown with Dublin her 4 1/2 month old puppy. Kristin has had Dublin since the dog was 8 weeks old and he loves all kinds of water.  He has been known to jump into the shower with family members. It is obvious that both Kristin and Dublin are preparing to enjoy the next few months and then graduate with matching mortarboards.

We are always proud to photograph the summer swim team, North Forke Plantation Barracudas of Grayson. Head Coach Karen Tate is assisted by Alaina Mattis, a member of the University of Georgia Club Team and  David Lisska, Grayson High School Graduate and student at Southern Poly Institute and University.  The Barracudas will be sending many of their teams members to the Gwinnett County Championship  in mid-July.

Due to not only talent but opportunity in Gwinnett, several of the Barracudas are active in other summer sports.  Column regular Jason Barber, Keaton Spiegel, Holden Lewis and twin Wyatt Lewis also spend the summer on Coach Steve Sewell’s 10 and under baseball team .

Another thrill this summer was photographing the Archer Athletic Association Tee Ball team. “We are Archer” is evident even when the athletes are tee ball size.  It was our first time photographing a team for this league and we loved the idea of the team congregating around the pickup truck but did ask that young Mr. Wofford not drive (his father is head Central Gwinnett football Coach, Todd Wofford).

While swimming and baseball are in full swing, Gwinnett, high school football athletes, albeit guided by 2012 Georgia Heat Acclimatization Guidelines, prepare for the Friday night lights of fall. With approval from talented head Coach Tommy Jones,  I photographed some of the Seniors at Dacula High School. DHS, although they are a small school in their division, plays some of the toughest teams in Gwinnett, which means some of the toughest teams in the US, and does well year after year.
