College is Inaugural Education Winner; Honored for 30 Years of Excellence

GWINNETT – NORTH FULTON – Gwinnett Technical College has won the inaugural 2015 IMPACT Regional Business Award for Education.

Created by the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce, the awards honor premier organizations in critical industries that are driving economic development and job creation, while also enhancing quality of life.

The Gwinnett Chamber honored more than 100 finalist organizations across ten industry categories at the awards luncheon on Thursday, May 13. The awards are designed to be reflective of Gwinnett and unique in the metro Atlanta area,  “We are very gratified to be named an IMPACT Regional Business winner because the award speaks to our mission – driving economic development and supporting job growth by educating and training our region’s workforce. Gwinnett has a long-standing reputation as center for excellence in education, at every level, from K-12 through post-secondary and beyond, so it is an honor to be named the winner among the other stellar institutions andorganizations in this category,” said Dr. Glen Cannon, president, Gwinnett Technical College.

The award noted that “Gwinnett Technical College has a 30-year history of excellence in delivering and training an outstanding pool of talent to meet the needs of business and industry employers. GTC’s economic impact is both direct, via more than 1,000 employees and nearly 20,000 students who live, work, and play in Gwinnett; and indirect, via the services they provide to businesses in the form of a skilled workforce and training employees through continuing education.”

“The winners of the IMPACT Awards represent the creativity, determination and engagement of our business community and are examples of the enormous contributions of Gwinnett and metro Atlanta businesses and their employees,” said Dr. Dan Kaufman, president and CEO, Gwinnett Chamber.
