Collagen Induction Therapy, or CIT, utilizes a small handpiece that has a disposable tip with tiny needles. The skin is numbed topically for twenty minutes with a lidocaine ointment. Once numb, the technician uses the CIT hand piece to gently make micro openings in the top layer of skin, thus stimulating the lower layers to produce more collagen and elastin. When working with scars, this treatment will work to soften the scarred tissue and allow new healthy tissue to grow. The client feels a slight pressure on the skin, but the procedure is virtually painless and may be adjusted if it is uncomfortable. Once the face and neck have been treated, LED light is applied to the skin to stimulate collagen and calm inflammation. The next couple of days, the skin will appear pink, as if sunburned. In another two to three days, clients may experience dry skin. After that, the skin will look bright and fresh.
Clients return once per month for a total of six treatments. Results are usually seen after the first or second treatments and skin surface will continue to improve for up to eighteen months after the treatment series ends. The best part of this procedure is that the change is permanent. Of course, the skin will continue to age and change, and clients will often do two to four treatments per year to stave off the effects of aging and continue to improve skin.
The results have been overwhelmingly pleasing. At this point, About Face Skin Care has performed hundreds of CIT treatments. In addition to acne scarring, I have personally been very impressed with the results noted to the skin directly beneath the eyes and the crow’s feet area. Forehead creases and droopy eyes also seem to respond well. And my personal favorite is the results seen around the mouth and the dreaded smoker’s lines. (By the way, anyone can have an issue with these!! Even if you never looked at a cigarette or straw in your life, you are not immune!) This is also an excellent treatment for brown spots and stretch marks.
