Make your window treatments the focal point

When it comes to window treatments, they should be a focal point in any room. If you don’t want bare or uninteresting, add a layer over your blinds, shades, or shutters. Layering can be done in a variety of ways.

2” Blinds have been an easy, fairly inexpensive fix for privacy and light control. Unless the tops of the blinds are covered with an interesting wood cornice or fabric, they are plain and ordinary. Think about adding a layer to create some pizazz. A fabric valance, fixed Roman Shade, or some colorful drapery panels with a decorative rod would make a huge difference and add a finished look in any room.

Some blinds and shades, when installed in a shallow window frame, will have what we refer to as “light bleed.” Light bleed is a gap on each side of the window which also may affect privacy. To address this issue, simply add drapery panels on each side of the window and it’s fixed.

In certain circumstances, a third layer may be desired. Sheers make a beautiful addition to a window with a blind, shade, and a topper or again, yes, you guessed it – the reliable, versatile drapery panel. Sheers are light, airy, and are available in a wide variety of decorative colors and textures.
