J.M. Tull-Gwinnett Family YMCA receives grant from Gwinnett Rotary

Awarded $1500 to aid families in transition

J.M. Tull-Gwinnett Family YMCA receives grant from Gwinnett Rotary

ATLANTA (June 22, 2017) – The J.M. Tull-Gwinnett Family YMCA was honored with one of the Avenues of Service grants given out by the Gwinnett Rotary Club on June 20. Each year the Rotary Club of Gwinnett awards grants to local non-profits thanks to their annual fundraising efforts and a charitable endowment the Club set up years ago via the Community Foundation for Northeast Georgia.

Grants align with Rotary’s six areas of focus: Peace & Conflict Prevention/Resolution; Disease Prevention & Treatment; Water & Sanitation; Maternal & Child Health; Basic Education & Literacy; and Economic & Community Development.

In keeping with the YMCA’s cause of strengthening communities and Empowering Healthy Living, the Tull-Gwinnett YMCA in Lawrenceville proposed an outreach program to help homeless families transitioning to permanent housing. Working in conjunction with agencies such as Family Promise, they plan to use the grant to support these families through their transition by providing needs as immediate as hot showers, but also with a healthier quality of life by providing the know- how and resources  to improve their health, well-being and social connectedness.

The Avenues of Service grant will enable 4 families to be Y members for the duration of 1 year. In addition to the short term benefits mentioned above, the Y seeks to welcome these families to become part of a community offering long term support and benefits to their health and well-being.
