Cousins, best friends, good friends

Cousins, best friends, good friends
By Mandy Snell

“As life goes on, they become more and more important to your existence.” The word ‘they’ in this quote is referring to friends, and it couldn’t be more true. We are blessed in our lives with cousins, best friends and good friends. How lucky was I to have had them rolled into one?

In the picture you see me, Holly and Cathy, we’re cousins and also best friends, lifetime friends. Holly and I are double-cousins and me and Cathy are second. We grew up practically as next-door neighbors, always at each other’s house, from very young to right through high school. Of course, after that too, but Holly and I went away to college, so certain weekends when we were all home at the same time, we were together!

It wasn’t just us three; we had a circle of friends that blessed us with their friendships too. On any given Friday night, you could usually find me, Cathy, Joy and Nici in my red Caprice Classic. We didn’t always look for trouble, but more times than none, it would “find” us! LOL.

On many of those nights, Celeste, Yonna, Shannon Cofield and Chrystal would join us on our escapades. We were having a blast just cruising. Snellville and attending many parties! I thank the Lord everyday that we are all still here, we did some crazy stuff, heck we even claimed the title as “cattle rustlers” one time…Wow! I won’t mention who all was with me ‘that’ night.

As we moved into our high school years, some got steady boyfriends and spent a lot of their time with them. That didn’t mean the Caprice was empty by any means… I gained 2 new friends when we were football managers: Christi New and Jan Hannon. I may have taught them a few bad things.  They were hilarious and I loved spending time with them.  Christi and I still talk 2 or 3 times a week, as I do with most of my buddies. I am so lucky to still have all my friends in my life, there have been ups and downs in our relationships but I’m sure that’s the case with anyone. I love knowing that at any given moment I can pick up the phone and call them and they will be there.

I am proud to know all these people, much less call them my friends. If I were to attempt to name ALL of the people who have touched my life, it would be a year’s worth of articles. Love my family and friends, and it’s so cool to say that they are actually both… either way you look at it!
