Streching further

The hallways in high school are full once again with our youth coming and going from one classroom to the next.  Syllabi have been passed out, rolls have been called and fall sports are underway.  NG3 is also underway, working right beside the coaches and pouring into the lives of the student athletes. Much like the upperclassmen excited to build on the foundations they've laid in the previous years, NG3 is looking to continue the promotion of character development and spiritual growth.  This year, there is a renewed focus on reaching even more student athletes.

NG3 Staff

Since the inception of NG3, the concept of broadening the reach of a single staff member to multiple sports and multiple lives at a school has been paramount.  There is no other organization spending as much time and effort to mentor and invest in the character, morality and spirituality of our student athletes, but still there are more teams and students than one person can impact well.  At most Gwinnett County High Schools, there are at least 14 athletic teams including football, baseball, basketball, soccer, volleyball, softball, lacrosse, golf, swim and dive, tennis, wrestling, cheerleading, track and field, cross country, and for some schools, the list goes on.  One of the defining strengths of NG3 is the meaningful bonds created between NG3 staff and the student athletes, a direct product of the purposeful, consistent time spent by NG3 staff.  So how, you ask, does NG3 plan to reach more sports, more teams, more student athletes without sacrificing a core tenant of depth of relationship over superficial relationships?  I’m glad you asked…

The first initiative, and most vital, requires something, or should I say, someone extra…you!  The young people in our high schools need positive mentors and influences in their lives now more than ever.  The task is simple…sacrifice a small amount of time to make a world of difference in the next generation.  NG3 is charged with coordinating and empowering volunteers in the community with teams at their respective high schools.  The NG3 staff member contacts the head coach of the sport, ensures the responsibilities and boundaries are clear, and can even provide the volunteer with content if needed.

NG3 doesn’t plan on stopping there.  Building on the two student leadership seminars from the summer, NG3 will introduce and oversee student-led discussion groups for other sports offered on campus, similar in content to those led by volunteers.  Taking this a step further, NG3 is plugging role models from high school athletics into recreational leagues in the community.  This initiative will not only allow the younger burgeoning athletes in our communities an opportunity to hear the importance of good sportsmanship, teamwork, and integrity from their local heroes, but it will open the door for our high schoolers to recognize that anyone and everyone can serve others, especially when given a platform through sports.

Obviously, there are many exciting, new initiatives underway for NG3 with the goal of providing a positive voice in the lives of the next generation in our communities.  There has never been a stronger need for capable individuals to make an effort to impact the young men and women in our areas.  Volunteering to adopt a team at a school is a great way to invest in the lives of high schoolers who are in desperate need of more.
