It’s a sport that anybody can play; nobody must chase after a ball; if you are hit during the game, you more than likely won’t feel it; it’s co-ed; and it’s played outdoors!
The name of the game is cornhole or bean bag toss or several other names, and Lilburn City Park will be the venue for the second annual Old Town Lilburn league with the season beginning on Thursday night, March 18 and running for seven weeks on Thursday nights. Registration must be completed by Monday, March 8 to be eligible to participate in the spring league.
The inaugural cornhole season was played in the summer of 2020 with 10 teams participating. Turnout was so good organizers decided to double the number of teams for the fall league.
“We are excited to keep it growing this spring,” said Lilburn Community Development Administrator Brian Burchik. “The Cornhole league is open to all skill levels and is a great way to have fun while also practicing social distancing. Lilburn City Park has proven to be the perfect spot for cornhole, and we have a hard time believing there’s a better location in the state of Georgia for this fun event.”
Old Town Lilburn restaurants Agavero Cantina Parkside and 1910 Public House are partners with CornholeATL and the City of Lilburn to host the league.
Playing times are 6:45, 7:30, and 8:15 p.m., but times may change due to the number of people registering. No matches will be played the week of April 5-9 due to Spring Break.
All teams will play a best-of-three series against an opponent at the same skill level. All teams will participate in playoffs and qualifying teams will represent their location at the CornholeATL State Cornament.
Four divisions are offered:
Beginner (hits the board one to two times per four bags)
Intermediate (hits the board consistently and a few in the hole).
Intermediate+ (high level Intermediate but unsure of Advanced).
Advanced (all four bags are on the board or in the hole).

(Photo by Councilmember Emil Powella)To play, participants take turns throwing 16-ounce bags of corn kernels at a 4 ft. by 2 ft. raised platform with a hole at the far end. A bag in the hole scores three points, while one on the board scores 1 point. Play continues until a team or player reaches or exceeds the score of 21.
Organizers say it’s important that participants are registered for the appropriate division and correct location before the season begins. All team members who have registered by March 8 will receive a league shirt.
