Students who want to be considered for the Insureon scholarship are asked to write an essay describing their favorite small business. Since the competition began in 2014, the company has awarded $60,000 in scholarship funds to students who support small businesses in their communities.
In his essay, Ethan describes his journey as the owner of his small business – Norton’s Landscaping. He shares how he grew his business over the course of three years from relying on his family’s lawn mower to acquiring a truck, trailer, and commercial lawn mower of his own. Ethan also recounts what he learned about hiring and managing friends at his company. Ethan is a freshman at Clemson University majoring in civil engineering. He hopes to combine his love for engineering and to work outdoors.
“Once again, we received so many inspiring stories from students committed to small businesses in their community,” said Ted Devine, CEO of Insureon. “It is always a challenge to pick just two, but Ethan and Desiree’s passion for small business really shone through in their essays, and we are proud to support them during their education as they prepare to take their place as the next generation of small business owners.”
Insureon’s Small Business, Big Impact scholarship program is held twice annually, providing a total of four scholarships per year.
