Clay Maquette of Dr. King Unveiled in Athens, GA

The public got to see for the first time the clay maquette sculpture of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., unveiled at the studio of Stan Mullins in Athens, GA on Thursday night, June 30.

Attendees gather around Dr. King’s statue to get closeup photos.

This eight-foot-tall, large clay form was unveiled by sponsor Clyde Strickland of Lawrenceville, GA, and project sculptors Mullins and Kathy Fincher. The design, “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop,” was made by Mrs. Fincher, and approved by the National Monument Foundation.  When the completed bronze statue is finished, it will be dedicated on Dr. King’s birthday, January 16, 2023, at the Rodney Cook, Sr. Peace Park in Vines City.
