The Audrey and Jack Morgan Foundation Scholarship was awarded to DeKalb Medical employees who want to pursue educational opportunities and enhance their skills and contributions to the community. The 2017 winners are: Melissa Waters, Outpatient Rehab Services/North Decatur, who will attend the Lee Silverman Voice Treatment Program and Videostroboscopy Certified Training Program; Shatavia Smith, Revenue Integrity/North Decatur, who will receive additional training at Chronicles Billing School; Jodean LaPointe, Cancer Center Clinical Trials/North Decatur, who will attend the Chamberlain College of Nursing; and Bayyinah Muhammad, Obstetrics Education/North Decatur, who also will attend the Chamberlain College of Nursing.
The Dr. Gulshan S. Harjee Scholarships were awarded to five high school seniors to help them pursue their dreams of serving in the healthcare field. The following students were presented with the scholarship: Sarah Perling, Dunwoody High School, who will attend Furman University; Asma Khimani, Parkview High School, who will attend Georgia State University; Isaiah Boyd, Union Grove High School, who will attend Kennesaw State University; Chandler Knight, North Paulding High School, who will attend the University of West Georgia; and Fahad Paryani, Lakeside High School, who will attend the University of California, Berkley.
The DeKalb Medical Auxiliary Teen Scholarship was awarded to two rising college freshmen this year. The Volunteen program gives high school students an opportunity to test potential careers, gain experience that might help them get into the college of their choice and learn what it is like to work in a hospital setting. Members of the Volunteen program, Amirah Clarke, a graduate of South Gwinnett High School who will attend Agnes Scott College this fall, and Amayah Outlaw, who graduated from the DeKalb School of the Arts and will attend Valdosta State University.
