Fourth Annual 5K Steps Off This Memorial Day Weekend

DULUTH — The Southeastern Railway Museum and the city of Duluth will host the family-friendly Fast Track 5K this Memorial Day weekend.

The fourth-annual running of the race steps off at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 26, in downtown Duluth and features a patriotic theme. Participants and spectators are encouraged to dress in patriotic attire.

The race is a USA Track & Field certified event and is a Peachtree Road Race pre-qualifier. Registration is $25 until April 30 and $30 starting May 1. To register, log onto http://tinyurl.com/FT5K2018.

Online registration closes on Wednesday, May 23.

The race starts in front of Eddie Owens Presents at the Red Clay Theater and finishes on the Town Green approaching the festival center.

All pre-registered runners will receive a T-shirt. Awards will be given to the overall male and female winners, masters male and female winners and the top three male and female finishers in 14 age categories.

Following the race, the Southeastern Railway Museum will offer free admission to participants with a race number and up to four family members or friends; train rides are extra.

Race packet pick-up is from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 24, at Southeastern Railway Museum and starting at 7 a.m. on the day of the race near the water fountain in Duluth’s Town Green.

Proceeds of the race will benefit the education and equipment restoration and conservation programs of the Museum.

The Southeastern Railway Museum, in operation since 1970, is Georgia’s Official Transportation History Museum.
