September is DMV Appreciation Month, designed to celebrate the role that the motor vehicle industry plays in raising awareness for organ donation. The Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) supports organ donation by asking each customer if they would like to be added to Georgia’s Donor Registry.
“We are proud to partner with LifeLink of Georgia to offer customers the option to become an organ donor when they apply, renew or replace a credential in person, online or from the free mobile app, DDS 2 GO,” said DDS Commissioner Spencer R. Moore. “ It is an easy way to express your commitment to becoming an organ or tissue donor,” he added.
There are currently 3,601,129 valid Georgia credential holders who have selected the organ donation option. Departments of Motor Vehicles (DMVs) across the country remain the primary source of organ donor registrations.
“National DDS Appreciation Month is an opportunity for LifeLink to show appreciation to our partners at the Georgia Department of Driver Services. Nearly 90% of Georgians who register to be an organ and tissue donor do so when applying for or renewing their driver’s license or state ID and we are thankful for the support of DDS leadership and those customer service representatives who help facilitate the donor registration process. Their effort in registering donors is appreciated by the thousands who are currently on the transplant waiting list, the registered donors who rely on Georgia’s donor registry to ensure their decision to donate can be carried out, and LifeLink staff who are on the frontlines, working with donor’s families, to facilitate lifesaving donation,” Katie Payne, Executive Director, LifeLink of Georgia
