Gwinnett Animal Shelter extends hours on Thursdays beginning July 26

The Gwinnett animal shelter is kicking off its After-Hours Adoption Thursdays with ice cream and more time to pick the pet of your choice, beginning July 26.

The shelter is extending its hours on Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. into the fall. Ice cream socials will be held on the last Thursday of each month through October.

“Some people find it hard to come to the shelter during regular working hours and are busy on the weekends,” said Animal Welfare and Enforcement Division Manager Alan Davis. “This makes it more convenient for folks to come by and look at all puppies and kittens we have to offer. Finding a new pet is a happy and exciting time, and we thought ice cream would be a festive way to celebrate that, especially in the summer.”

The shelter is open for adoptions Monday through Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and on Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Gwinnett Animal Welfare is located at 884 Winder Highway in Lawrenceville.

The Gwinnett County animal shelter is running multiple adoption specials in July.

Specials include:
·         Free adoptions every Friday
·         Reduced adoption fee of $20 for all animals throughout the month
·         Only $20 adoption fee for two kittens

Dogs typically cost $90 to adopt, and cats typically cost $30.

With rare exceptions, dogs and cats up for adoption at the shelter have been examined by Animal Welfare and Enforcement staff veterinarians. The future pets have been vaccinated, are neutered or spayed, and are ready to go home on the day of adoption.
