SAC will present the Snellville Players in a unique adaptation of the Charles Dickens classic at the organization’s gala fundraiser at 7 p.m. Dec. 7 at the Summit Chase Country Club, 3197 Classic Drive.
The Snellville Players is an ad hoc SAC performance group dedicated to bringing performing arts to the audience. The group’s goal is to enrich the lives of the participants, the audience and the community by supporting the mission of the SAC. Donations are accepted and there will be a silent auction the night of the gala as well.
“What better way to laugh the night away also knowing that you’re inspiring and uplifting the Snellville community?” SAC member Kathi Mardis asked. “You’ll see Scrooge like you’ve never seen him and a whimsical production accompanied by fine dining, a sublime atmosphere and holiday cheer. Join the mayor and city council of Snellville at Summit Chase Country Club for a Dickens of a time!”
Perhaps the most beloved of Charles Dickens’ works the play touches on the lives of Ebenezer Scrooge and Bob Cratchit – Scrooge is a wealthy miser, Cratchit is his poor and humble employee. Married with several children, Cratchit lives in a house filled with love and good will. Scrooge, on the other hand, lives alone with his money. The ghost of Jacob Marley, Scrooge’s deceased partner, comes to warn Scrooge against following the same path Marley did. Soon, Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future all pay visits to Scrooge. The story follows the changes that can occur when closely examining one’s life and choices. A well-known holiday favorite, but this one done with a whimsical and screwball twist. A group of well-intentioned 1930s radio performers decide to cheer up Snellville listeners by performing the play for their live audience and radio listeners in the community. When the station manager is his own kind of “Scrooge” and the performers each have their own “vision” of bringing the story to life, anything can happen.
The play is produced by SAC members Jonathan Cates and Mardis. SAC’s own Kirk Buis wrote the adapted script.
