Vuong indicated that about an hour prior to reporting the robbery she was traveling home from the Asian restaurant that she works at in Monroe, Georgia. She stated that she was blocked in by a black passenger vehicle on North Road, and was robbed of several hundred dollars that belonged to the restaurant as well as some personal property. Vuong indicated that the suspect was in a ski mask and fled the scene
in the black passenger vehicle.
Members of the police department take all reported offenses seriously. However, with the recent string of armed robberies targeting Asian restaurant employees around the Metro Atlanta area, the detective division put all resources into investigating this crime. The detectives were able to uncover several inconsistencies with Vuong’s story. Through their investigation, they were able to determine that Vuong fabricated being robbed.
Warrants were obtained for Vuong’s arrest for false report of a crime and making false statements. Vuong was booked into the Gwinnett County jail.
