George Pierce Park (Gwinnett County)
55 Buford Highway, Suwanee, GA 30024
Leader: Chris O’Neal
Cell contact morning of walk: 404.514.7057
Birding Focus: This park is one of the best places in Gwinnett County to bird at any time of year. We will look for migrants and permanent residents: herons, woodpeckers, flycatchers, vireos, thrushes, and, of course, warblers. Restroom facilities are available. The main park path we will take goes through the woods and features a boardwalk past a large wetlands pond. Bring water, snacks, binoculars, and comfortable walking shoes. The walk will last approximately 3 hours and we will walk 2.6 miles. All levels are welcome.
Directions: From I-85, take Exit 111 to Lawrenceville-Suwanee Rd./GA-317 N (if you are coming from Atlanta, turn left; from the north, turn right). After 2.3 mi., turn right on Buford Hwy./US-23 N. After 0.3 mi., turn right into George Pierce Park at a traffic light. Drive 1.1 mi., going past the Senior Center and all the sports fields. You will go over a total of 14 speed humps. Arrive at the final parking lot at the back of the park, where we will meet. Google these coordinates for a map or program your GPS:34.0617, -84.0613.
