For the latest installment of BOOfest on Saturday, October 24, line-up for the popular costume parade begins at 3:00 p.m. in Lillian Webb Park. At the heart of this Halloween-themed event that’s so fun… it’s scary, children and “pet”rifying pooches in costumes of every imagining will march through Norcross’ historic downtown from Jones Street to Thrasher Park. The spooky spectacle culminates in a costume contest, hot dog feast and performances by local youth from Summerour Middle School, the Norcross Girl Scouts and the North Metro Academy of Performing Arts. Prizes will be awarded to ‘best boy costume’ and ‘best girl costume’ in three age categories: infant-4 years old, 5-11 and 12-teen. Participating pups will be judged for Most Original Costume and Best Dog & Master Combo Costume.
More mature local monsters will want to mark their calendars for October 29, 30 and 31 when Lionheart Theatre Company presents the inaugural season of the Lawless Spirits Tour. Featuring two performances each night at 6:30-7:30 p.m. and 8-9 p.m., the tour features a spirited stroll through the streets of Historic Norcross as guests explore a little local lore. With a focus on the period between 1864-1961, Lionheart Theatre Company puts its guests right into the thick of things as each tour group is lead throughout the city to witness reenactments of shoot outs and murders that happened right where they stand. They will also become jury members in the courtroom trial deciding the guilt or innocence in the slaying of the Simpson Boys, meet hobos by the campfire telling stories of the good old bootlegging days, see a shootout on the streets between Henry “Doc” Lively and Bija Nuckolls – all while being on the lookout for escaped convict, James Meriwether. Tour groups travel on foot – although, services can be provided to accommodate handicapped guests. Beverages and snacks are provided. Paid reservation tickets are available through Lionheart Theatre Company’s website at www.lionhearttheatre.org for just $15 each with group discounts available.
