City of Snellville has Gone Gold for Childhood Cancer & Amanda Riley Day

Snellville Mayor Kelly D. Kautz and the City of Snellville have painted the City or at least City Hall gold in support of childhood cancer and the Amanda Riley Foundation. In Monday's Council meeting Mayor Kautz declared September to be Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and specifically declared September 12 of every year to be Amanda Riley Day in the City of Snellville.

Amanda Riley was a three sport student at Brookwood High School when she passed away from childhood cancer in 2010. Amanda was known as a breath of sunshine to her family, friends, teachers and classmates and even during her battle with cancer she kept a smile on her face. Amanda’s parents, Barbara and Steve Riley formed the Amanda Riley Foundation in her memory and have made it their mission to bring a smile to the face of children battling cancer and their families even if it is just for a moment.

The color gold represents childhood cancer. In honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month the Amanda Riley Foundation is selling gold t-shirts. Using her own funds, Mayor Kautz purchased gold t-shirts for the entire City Council and City Hall staff which bear the City of Snellville symbol along with the symbol of the Amanda Riley Foundation. The City of Snellville City Hall Staff is wearing today (September 12th) the gold t-shirts to work oto honor Amanda Riley.

Mayor Kautz is also working with the Amanda Riley Foundation and Brookwood High School for a gold out during Brookwood’s September 27th home football game. Students are encouraged to wear gold t-shirts with the Bronco and Amanda Riley Foundation logo on them to the game and the Brookwood Band will be conduct a balloon release along with Mayor Kautz before the game.
