The ‘America out’ as the students referred to it, was a joint effort between the football team, cheerleaders, band, ROTC, student council, staff and students. The field was adorned with red, white and blue balloons and signs, a reception was held for servicemen and women, the band played military anthems and Erin Mattox sang a beautiful rendition of ‘God Bless America.’
Our servicemen (48 of them) walked out on the field at halftime to a standing ovation. The student section, dressed in red, white and blue, waived flags and showed their respect for our local heros.
To top off the night, our spirit cheerleaders collected $735 for The Wounded Warrior Project.
The community was so impressed with the touching tribute many have offered to help with the ‘America Out’ next year.
The Grayson Rams went on to win the game 39-0. The players have signed a game ball that will be given to a local hero who is associated with The Wounded Warrior project.
‘Our fans did a fantastic job showing their support for our Armed Services!’ exclaimed Dana Pugh, Grayson High School’s principal. Special thanks to all those involved. We would also like to thank all other Gwinnett High Schools who accepted The Grayson Challenge to raise money for The Wounded Warrior Project. We are proud of our military and we hope to see everyone again next year!
