The Perfect Game Series Classic is a national tournament consisting of selected, elite players from all over the nation who are placed on regional teams for competition. This year’s 13U Perfect Game Series Classic was played at the MLB Jet Blue Complex (MLB Spring Training facility) in Ft. Myers, FL from July 16-22. The Perfect Game is the largest national organization that conducts elite level tournaments, baseball showcases, and offers scouting for potential baseball player prospects for college and MLB recruiting.
This national tournament consisted of 7 regions playing each other for five days in Pool Play. The sixth day was single elimination Bracket Play. The Southeast Team represented Georgia, Florida, Arkansas, Tennessee and Virginia. The fourteen boys played hard and never let up. The Southeast Team went undefeated in Bracket Play, beating two very tough opponents, the South Team, which represented the Southwestern states, and the East Team, which represented the Carolinas and the Mid-Atlantic states. Wins over these teams advanced the Southeast Team to the Championship Game. The final Championship Game was played on July 22 in JetBlue Stadium, on the Boston Red Sox Spring Training Field, built to exactly replicate Fenway Park in Boston, vs. the Northeast Team. The Boston Red Sox is John’s favorite MLB team! Can you imagine the thrill of being 13, and standing up to bat at home plate at Fenway Park South?
Southeast beat Northeast, winning the game 9-1! The Award Ceremony following the game was announced over the loud speaker system. John was announced as MVP of the tournament based on detailed hitting , pitching, and fielding stats that were compiled throughout the week. Being selected the MVP out of 110 elite ballplayers from all over the country was a huge honor!
John played at Grayson Athletic Association from 2006-2013, playing for the Grayson Rams GGBL Travel Team from 2010 – 2013. He moved to the elite major travel ball level in the Fall of 2013. John played for the 13U Team DeMarini of John’s Creek this past spring. For the upcoming 2016 season, he has committed to play for the Georgia Jackets of Milton, GA. Who knows what the future holds for this baseball player? Right now he just continues to work hard and become the best baseball player he can be.
