For its efforts, Gwinnett Tech is designated as a “Top School” in the 2016 Military Advanced Education & Transition (MAE&T) Guide to Colleges & Universities research study. The guide measures best practices in military and veteran education enacted at more than 600 institutions from community colleges to nationally known centers for higher education. MAE&T is a journal of higher learning for the service men and women of today. The publication covers issues and trends in distance learning, education and opportunities specific to military life.
Gwinnett Tech served more than 500 student veterans in the past academic year. Through the Office of Veterans Affairs at Gwinnett Tech, all qualified veterans, their spouses and dependents can receive advisement services related to admissions and financial aid – including assistance with VA certification. Additionally, the office offers assistance for students to register for classes, apply for graduation and plan for a career after college.
The Office of Veterans Affairs offers information sessions, one-stop service, graduation recognition, an annual luncheon, community roundtable discussions and resume writing tips. Membership to both the National Student Veteran Organization and the Gwinnett Tech Student Veteran Organization are also offered. Workshops from both the Boot Up! Workshop series and the Campus Cadence Workshop series are planned throughout the year. A computer lab specifically for veterans is also available to students on campus.
