Have fun in the sun with Snellville’s Beach Blast

SNELLVILLE – Too busy to make it to the beach? Snellville is bringing the beach to you. Come to the Town Green in front of City Hall, 2342 Oak Road, from 2 to 7 p.m. with a concert from 7 to 9 p.m. May 31 for fun in the sun and sand.

Have a blast at the beach

Snellville’s 3rd Annual Beach Blast is going to transform Oak Road into a beach with 70 tons of soft white sand, donated by E.R. Snell. This will be a fun-filled day packed with activities for the entire family to enjoy. DJ Bruce King will be spinning beach music from 2 to 6 p.m.

There will also be a mascot parade around the Green, inflatables and a water slide, a bungee jump, cake and cookie walks, limbo dances, a trackless train, a watermelon-eating contest and a hula hoop contest for all age groups. “We are very excited about our new mascot STAT the Cat who will make his debut at the Beach Blast at 3 p.m.,” said Snellville Tourism & Trade Director Kelly McAloon.

“This is one cool cat you won’t want to miss. Several of his furry mascot friends, such as Chopper, Chick-fil-A Cow, Andy the Armadillo and many more will join him on the Green for some fun in the sun at the Beach Blast. Hope to see you on the beach!” Stick around for the first of the city’s summer concerts sponsored by About Face Skin Care. The Sons of Sailors, a Jimmy Buffet tribute band will perform from 7 to 9 p.m.

The band has been playing Jimmy Buffett music, mixed with other artists’ material and originals, for decades. The event is sponsored by E.R. Snell, Summit Chase Country Club, Sam’s Club, Securlock Storage, S. E. Urgent Care, Eastside Medical Center and Wild Wing Café. “I am always amazed at the continued support from the business sector in our community and our volunteers,” McAloon said. “Without them we could not have such successful events.” Georgia Sand and Stone, Inc. will bring the sand, Gwinnett’s Greenest Lawns will grade it and Nash Construction, Inc. will clean up Oak Road and spread the donated sand at South Gwinnett High’s baseball field.
