The City of Lawrenceville showed its support to Jumpstart – a national early education organization – as they hosted the 10th anniversary of their global Read for the Record event. Lawrenceville Mayor Judy Jordan Johnson and City Councilwoman Marie Beiser made stops at three local elementary schools in the area to read and engage with the students.

Jumpstart is an organization that provides language literacy, and social-emotional programming for preschool children from under-resourced communities. The organization selected the book Not Norman by Kelly Bennett as this year’s Read for the Record book. On October 22, 2015, millions of children across the globe gathered to read Not Norman in their homes and schools. The program’s essential goal is to spark conversation among families, policymakers, and communities about the importance of building children’s vocabulary and love for reading.
“I greatly support Read for the Record as it is fundamental that all children have access to a quality academic preschool setting,” said Mayor Judy Jordan Johnson. “Bridging the gap in education should start as early as possible and that is why we need to continue to invest in programs like this for our community.”
Last year alone Read for the Record was able to reach nearly 2.4 million people and over 14.5 million since the campaign’s inception.
