A native of Chicago, Ill., Greer obtained a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She started her broadcast career as a chyron operator and technical director at WCIA TV-3 in Champaign, and quickly found her way on air as a reporter at WCID TV-15 in Champaign and then at WCSC TV-5 in Charleston, SC. In 1989 Greer moved to Atlanta where she anchored and reported for the newly-formed WGNX, now WGCL TV-46.
In 1999, she joined the news team at 11Alive/WXIA TV-11, Atlanta’s NBC affiliate. Greer is known for her commitment to the community and extraordinary work in the fight against breast cancer. Greer also is a member of the Magnolia chapter of The Links Inc., a board member of Georgia-based Sport of Giving, and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She is past president of the Atlanta Press Club and currently serves on the Board of Governors for the National Academy of Television, Arts & Sciences.
Throughout her career, Greer has been the recipient of numerous awards honoring both her professional work and community contributions. She has received awards from the National Association of Black Journalists as well as the Atlanta Association of Black Journalists. Greer also received the Revlon Kizzy award for outstanding achievement from Black Enterprise Magazine and in 2008 was named one of Atlanta’s 100 Women of Influence by the Atlanta Business League.
Last year, she was recognized as a female powerhouse in the 2010 edition of Who’s Who in Black Atlanta. In her free time Greer enjoys reading and traveling with her husband, Tony, and being a soccer, baseball, lacrosse and swim mom to their sons, Kyle and Tyler.
