Hosted by the Gwinnett Chamber, the award ceremony was held in March at the Infinite Energy Forum in Duluth, GA.
The Valor Awards serve to honor Gwinnett County’s public safety professionals, including firefighters, police and emergency personnel for extraordinary efforts displayed in the line of duty.
“We are extremely proud that our Crime Suppression Unit is being recognized for their outstanding achievements,” said Lt. Ryan Morgan. “Lawrenceville is truly lucky to have this team of determined and hard-working officers who are dedicated and passionate about the work they do in the community.”
Lawrenceville’s CSU has worked closely with the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) in several investigations of armed robbery, burglary, and theft. Last year alone, 51 warrants were served either as a unit or while assisting the CID, Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms (ATF), the Gwinnett Metro Task Force (GMTF), Probation/Parole, and the Gwinnett County Police Department. The unit was able to make 189 arrests for the year, while adding 37 gang members to an existing database of gang activity and updating the database of criminal activity to include 197 members as well.
“The Lawrenceville Police Depart-ment’s Crime Suppression Unit has made a tremendous impact in helping to defeat criminal activities throughout the City and Gwinnett County as a whole,” said Mayor Judy Jordan Johnson. “We greatly rely on the efforts of our Police Department as lower crime rates foster an environment for economic growth by offering residents, investors, business organizations, and tourists’ confidence in our community’s local security.”
In 2016, the unit will continue efforts started in 2015 with proactive patrols in high crime areas that will include a combination of plain clothes and uniform efforts.
