On the last day of the 3-day event, newly-elected National Officers and State Presidents for 2014-2015 were installed during ceremonies at Mount Vernon. Robert Walker Chewning, Jr., age 15, lifelong resident of Gwinnett County, took the oath of office as the President of the Georgia State Society C.A.R.
Walker has been a member of the local Allen Howard Society C.A.R. and the Georgia State Society C.A.R. since 2007, and he has held numerous state offices and state chairmanships. As president of the Georgia State Society C.A.R., his project is to raise $5,000 to purchase 20 large wooden rocking chairs and install planters and plants to create an inviting green space for the patients of the Atlanta Veterans Administration Medical Center (VMAC) and the Eagle’s Nest, the nursing home at the VMAC. His state project lapel pin depicts an eagle in honor of all our veterans.
The Children of the American Revolution is the oldest patriotic youth organization in the United States. Membership is open to anyone under the age of 22 who is a lineal descendant of a person who rendered aid to the cause of American independence. The mission of the National Society of the Children of the American Revolution is to train good citizens, develop leaders, and promote love of the United States of America and its heritage among young people.
