Naturalization Ceremony at US District Court September 25, 2015

On Friday, September 25, 2015 six daughters from the Philadelphia Winn Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution attended a naturalization ceremony at the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Georgia, in the Richard B. Russell Federal Courthouse in Atlanta.

One hundred sixty-two new citizens representing over 50 countries took the Oath of Allegiance and pledged their loyalty to their new country. Guest Speaker Bachir Mihoubi, Founder & Managing Director, FranCounsel Group, spoke about his success after taking the oath in the same courtroom some 15 years ago. He encouraged them to actively seek opportunities available in their new country.

Following the speaker, the Honorable Leigh Martin May, United States District Judge, invited our chapter to speak. On behalf of the chapter, Debbie Houston congratulated the new citizens and urged them to uphold American ideals and show others how to live in the same way. She also announced that following the ceremony Philadelphia Winn Chapter would like to celebrate the occasion with them. Daughters had a table filled with cookies for them and their families to enjoy.

In the receiving line, Daughters Lizzie Jaeger, Randi Minor, and Cindy Gaskins (in period dress) shook hands with each new citizen, gave out flags and flag pins, and posed for photos upon request. Also in the receiving line were two members of the Piedmont Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution, Georgia Society, Jared Ogden (left) and Robert D. McCleskey, also in period attire.

First Vice Regent Kitty Watters and Mary Lou Godbey, Chairman for Americanism, greeted the new citizens as they stepped out of the courtroom into the hall and again invited them to celebrate their accomplishments and enjoy some cookies!
