Peach State FCU Awards $107,000 in Scholarships and Educational Grants

Lawrenceville, GA – Peach State Federal Credit Union announced the winners of its scholarship program, designed to honor the credit union’s founders, as well as past and present board members and employees. Scholarships were also awarded in honor of the lifetime achievements of several notable school system and community leaders. This year, Peach State awarded $107,000 in scholarships and educational grants. The following is a list of the scholarships that were awarded: 

•Sixteen $2,000 Career Advancement Scholarships were awarded to members to assist in their continuing education in honor of the credit union’s founders. 

•Legacy Scholarships were awarded to nine high school seniors who will be attending college to pursue a degree in education and plan to return to Georgia to teach. These $2,500 scholarships were given in honor of past and present board members and employees who have served Peach State for 20 years or more. 

•Five $2,500 scholarships were awarded in honor of the lifetime achievements of the following school system leaders: Anderson Byers, retired Superintendent of Jackson County School System; Dan Cromer, retired Barrow County School System Superintendent; Dr. John Jackson, retired Superintendent of the Oconee County School System; Louise Radloff, member of the Gwinnett County Board of Education; and J. Alvin Wilbanks, CEO and Superintendent of Gwinnett County Public Schools. 

•Two $2,500 scholarships were awarded in honor of the lifetime achievements of Janet Pomeroy and Pearlie Woods to Clarke County high school graduates on the basis of financial need, academic credentials, and a demonstrated commitment to community service. 

•Additionally, scholarships were underwritten at the Gwinnett County Public Schools Foundation for $10,000, at Georgia Gwinnett College for $20,000, and at Gwinnett Technical College for $5,000.
