The former executive assistant to a city of Miami Commissioner and office manager for the Broward County Bar Association was named city clerk following a court settlement last month.
Now Richardson is learning the ins and outs of the Snellville Clerks Office.
“(I want to) provide the best customer service possible to the mayor, council members, employees and the citizens of Snellville,” Richardson said. “I want to help make Snellville an example for other Georgia cities to follow by bringing the experience I have obtained over the years in working in local government; with the White House Staff and the knowledge I have obtained from corporate America.”
Richardson was born in Topeka, Kan., and because her father has served in the U.S. Air Force, she moved around the county. Ultimately, she finished high school at Miami Carol City High School in Miami.
According to her biography, Richardson began her public service in the early 1990s by working several years as executive assistant to the chairman of the Miami Dade County Commission.
“One day when I was working doing bookkeeping for a company a candidate running for political office can by to introduce himself to the staff, solicit our votes and recruit for telephone banking,” she said. “So I decided one day to go and help out with the telephone banking. I did so well when he won the campaign he offered me a job working in his commission office as a commissioner aide.”
She said she was responsible for supporting high-level local government officials and coordinated all aspects of office communication. Richardson said she worked as staff support for the historic Summit of the Americas for which she received an accommodation and Congressional Black Caucus meetings and served as point person between the Office of the Chairman and the White House.
Later, she served as deputy clerk for the Miami Dade County Board of Commissioners, worked as a community organizer and held leadership roles in several political campaigns.
Richardson then found herself in Southeast Gwinnett.
“We were looking for a great place to live in the Snellville area that provided a great family life,” she said. “We settled into the Loganville area in 2007 and located our business in Snellville in 2009.”
She said has done volunteer work with Veterans Empowerment Organization of Georgia, Inc. and LifeLink of Georgia.
She is married to James Richardson Sr., a Vietnam veteran, and together they own PJEnterprise Title & Courier Services Inc. with offices in Snellville. They are the parents of four adult children and have one grandchild.
Richardson is a member of New Jerusalem Baptist Church under the direction of Pastor Elijah Collins Jr., where she serves as president of the Youth Usher Board.
