Snellville police to take on ‘ALS Ice Bucket Challenge’

The city’s police department ready for a challenge. Snellville Police Department officers will take part in the “Ice Bucket Challenge,” the social media sensation that raises money for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) or Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

Stone Mountain Ice LLC will host the challenge at its Wisteria Village location on Wisteria Drive from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday and from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

“The Snellville Police Department has accepted the challenge to bring as many officers as they can and an invitation is being extended to Station 12 in Snellville of the Gwinnett Fire Department,” said SMI owner Perry Eidson.

The public is also invited to come by and complete their challenges, Eidson said. SMI will provide the ice, water and buckets for the challenge and will donate $5 per family or individual that completes the challenge to the ALS foundation up to a maximum of $250.

Additionally, SMI will provide a token for a free vend of ice for use at a later date to each family or individual that participates regardless of the number of participants. There will be a bucket available for additional donations if desired.

Efforts are under way to have additional businesses within the community “sweeten the pot” with other small incentives, Eidson said, adding Texas Roadhouse will be providing a coupon for a free appetizer for each family or individual that completes the challenge.
