The Blast transforms the Towne Green in front of City Hall on Oak Road into a beach with 70 tons of soft white sand.
DJ Bruce King will be spinning beach music from 2 to 6 p.m. There will also be a mascot parade around the Green, inflatables and a water slide, a bungee jump, cake and cookie walks, limbo dances, a trackless train, a watermelon-eating contest and a hula hoop contest for all age groups. And the new mascot STAT the Cat will make his debut at 3 p.m. Later, the first of the city’s summer concerts will take place with the Sons of Sailors, a Jimmy Buffet tribute band performing from 7 to 9 p.m.
“If you like to have fun Snellville is the place to be,” said STAT Director Kelly McAloon. “You don’t need to go far to have fun in Snellville. STAT has a full line-up of nothing but fun all summer long. Check out our family friendly events on the Towne Green and the free outdoor movies held at Briscoe Park. Don’t stop there. Come dance the night away as Snellville rocks the Towne Green with the sweet sounds of Metro Jazz Club, Electric Avenue and Banks and Shane. Join us for our first Food Truck Friday on June 20, with music, inflatables for the kids and a wide variety of great food that will satisfy any palate.”
Other STAT events scheduled for the summer and beyond include: Summer Concert Series: July 19 – Metro Jazz Band – 7 to 9 p.m. – Concert and Food Truck event (beer and wine will be available); Aug. 23 – Electric Avenue -7 to 9 p.m. Concert and Food Truck event ( beer and wine will be available ); and Oct. 25 – Banks and Shane – 7 to 9 p.m. – after the Fall Festival.
Popcorn in the Park at Briscoe Park: movies from 7 to 10:30 p.m. June 14 “Peabody and Sherman”, July 26 “RIO 2”, Aug. 16 “Despicable Me 2” and Sept. 27 “Frozen.”
