Communicators working for cooperative businesses from across the nation compete for a stake in the contest. Major sectors represented include agriculture, food, telecommunications, energy and banking. The 2014 CCA contest totaled 678 entries in four categories: writing, photography, programs and projects/publications. The awards went to 69 different winners from 35 cooperatives. “The contest provides valuable feedback and benchmarks for our communication programs,” said Brooks. “It lets us know we’re on the right track to serving our customer-owners.” Brooks and Chandler received first place as well as a best-in-show designation for their social media campaign and second place for the employee publication, Two-Way Feed. Chandler won first place and best of show in the photography division for her portrait titled “Ice Cream Sandwiches Never Get Old.” Brooks also received third place for improved publication and his entertaining feature called “Meet My New Gal.” “To even place against some of the nationally recognized companies would have been an accomplishment,” said Chandler. “Catching the top spot in two very competitive categories is definitely going in my book as a career accomplishment.” Walton EMC proudly displays 61 communications awards earned in the last 19 years.
