Fifteen-year-old Harris received Life Care’s Youth Volunteer of the Year Award. This honor is presented to one young person each year for extraordinary volunteer service.
“My mom took me to volunteer, and I became attached to the residents,” said Harris, whose mother, Johanna Munguia, is a therapist assistant at the building. “I enjoy the routine.”
Harris is a sophomore at Collins Hill High School in Suwanee, Georgia, who has volunteered more than 240 hours at Life Care Center of Lawrenceville, Georgia. He calls bingo on Mondays and Wednesdays, visits one-on-one with residents and has conducted an art class for the residents.
During the facility’s annual Ms. Life Care of Lawrenceville pageant, Harris assisted all day and made sure the runway and decorations were perfect for that night.

The Youth Volunteer Award is presented annually to a volunteer age 18 or younger. Nominations from every region and division of Life Care are considered. Criteria include contributing a significant amount of time to a specific activity or service, initiating a new program or activity, serving as an excellent example for other individual youth or youth groups and producing positive changes through the volunteer activity or service.
