The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that children get a minimum of 60 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous exercise per day. A growing number of states, including Georgia, are focusing on innovative ways to increase physical activity and improve learning during the school day.
The Atlanta Hawks have teamed up with Adventure to Fitness to recognize and reward leading teachers throughout the state who are committed to developing healthy lifestyles. They believe that by engaging kids at early ages with lessons in health and nutrition, teachers can make lifelong differences in their students’ lives. FIT Georgia 2018 launched March 19 and runs through April 30, 2018.
“The Atlanta Hawks are thrilled to partner with Adventure to Fitness in a collaborative effort to inspire the youth of Georgia to lead healthy lifestyles through imagination, education, and movement,” says Jon Babul, Vice President of Basketball Development for the Atlanta Hawks.
Over the course of the campaign, the Atlanta Hawks and Adventure to Fitness will donate over $30,000 in prizes and equipment to teachers and students. Thomas Woolfolk from Harbins Elementary School in Dacula was selected from over 50,000 educators statewide to win a weekly prize. Thomas’ class will receive a virtual visit from Mr. Marc, a national television star who serves as the lead adventurer in Adventure to Fitness’ program. The visit will reinforce Thomas’ efforts to get students moving, learning, and eating well.
