“We’ve heard from a number of our residents of their concerns about pedestrian safety in our city,” said Mayor Mason. “We are asking for volunteers to help create a list of ideas that the city can use to improve in this area. We will ask the task force to meet several times in order to develop a list of recommendations.”
Since Peachtree Corners was founded 4 ½ years ago, over 20,000 feet of sidewalks have been added and future plans include 11 additional sidewalk projects. Two pedestrian crosswalks with rapid flashing beacons are also planned for 2017 and the city is in the process of adding streetlights to many of the main thoroughfares.
In addition, the city is planning an 11 mile multi-use trail that will wind through neighborhoods connecting to retail centers, restaurants and business parks throughout the city. As this trail is developed, the need for pedestrian safety, especially at high-traffic volume intersections, will be paramount.
