Eastside Medical Center recognized the growing need for services such as Navigate LIFELINE Gwinnett in their emergency rooms due to the growing opioid addition crisis here in Gwinnett County and throughout the country. By collaborating with Navigate LIFELINE Gwinnett, Eastside is striving to make a difference in the long-term health and well-being of those who are struggling with addiction.
“We are very grateful that the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) and Eastside Medical Center are both forward thinking organizations that saw the value of the Navigate Recovery LIFELINE program,” said Navigate Recovery’s Co-Founder and Executive Director Susan Barge. “Navigate Recovery coaches offer hope, connection and resources for patients and their family members. These services extend well beyond the initial meeting in the hospital with ongoing coaching for the following year.”
How does the program work?
Patients who are treated at an Eastside Medical Center emergency room for an overdose or suspected overdose are connected with a Navigate LIFELINE Gwinnett recovery coach as part of their care. A Navigate LIFELINE recovery coach will arrive at the ER within 30 minutes of contact and provide a coaching session that will explore the patient’s options for treatment, detox, recovery housing, recovery centers, continued recovery coaching and meeting sites. With patient consent, additional education and support will also be provided for accompanying loved ones who are present with the patient during treatment. If the patient agrees, the recovery coach will schedule a follow-up check for the next day.
“The opiate epidemic in Gwinnett County continues to grow,” stated Eastside Medical Center’s Vice President of Behavioral Health Services Margaret Collier. “We are proud to partner with Navigate Recovery LIFELINE Gwinnett to do our part to positively impact the crisis by connecting peer recovery coaches with individuals struggling with opiates and high-risk drug use. It is our hope that we will be able to make a difference in the lives of individuals struggling with addiction by offering resources and support that will help them find long-term recovery.”
Navigate LIFELINE services are provided at Eastside Medical Center’s Main Campus and South Campus emergency departments and inpatient units. For more information on Navigate LIFELINE Gwinnett, please contact:
