Funds are specifically to help recruit and mentor new vendors reflective of the city’s diverse population, collect and analyze market data, conduct outreach for the SNAP and senior nutrition programs offered at the market, and to provide family-friendly programming.
According to Sustainable Norcross Inc. founder Connie Weathers, “We are excited and honored by the confidence expressed by The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta in our mission to create a community around food. The money and technical assistance will also help provide other tools that enable our local farmers market to bring together farm, food, and friends.”
The same as a public library or park, a farmer’s market run by a non-profit needs subsidies to offer services. Funding from grants, sponsorships, and donations help provide the amenities that turn a basic market into an incubator for emerging entrepreneurs, a test site for identifying and implementing best practices to share, an oasis in a food desert, and a community gathering place.
Visit Norcross Community Market weekly starting Saturday, June 2 through August 25 at Lillian Webb Park in Norcross. The market is open 9 am to 1 pm. This open-air market offers locally and sustainably grown food and other hand-crafted products for purchase directly from the grower or producer. Ever changing activities are offered at each market including live music, food demos with free samples, and other fun things for all ages. EBT/SNAP is accepted and doubled for eligible items.
Make a standing date with family and friends to meet at Norcross Community Market on Saturdays this summer to experience community through food!
